The Missions to Seamen offered sailors a bed, entertainment and religious support. Amenities included a dining hall, reading room, slide projector and a shooting and skittle gallery. Social events were organised by the Lightkeepers Guild, a social committee run by women. Women were heavily involved in Mission fundraising and events—which may have contributed to its success with sailors.
